The Australian Short Film Festivals (ASFF) aims to support and promote short film as an artform and provide a platform for new and established film makers in a vibrant festival atmosphere.

Screened over two weeks, the Canberra Short Film Festival, established in 1995, is a hugely successful festival, showcasing films from across Australia and internationally.

The Festival features a strong contingent of emerging Iranian film makers, as well as streams focussed on indigenous, LGBTQI+, people with disabilities as actors and film makers, documentary, experimental, music, and animation.

The Bass Coast Shorts Film Festival, established in 2022, is an exciting newcomer to the festival scene, based in the regional Victorian town of Wonthaggi. The BCSFF aims to support local Gippsland film makers, as well as screening national and international entries.

Wonthaggi already has a strong film culture, being home to the Bass Coast Fine Film Group with just under 300 members, screening the Wonthaggi International Film Festival annually, and hosting the St Kilda Short Film Festival, and MIFF Travelling Film Festival. The Bass Coast Shorts Film Festival is another welcome addition to the film life of the region.
